Why more surgical capacity matters

A national eye-care gap that requires trained people, not just equipment.

Fundación Visión RDC currently reports a major shortage of ophthalmic surgeons in the country and a need to expand surgical output, training and outreach. The purpose of this platform is to convert international interest into a safe, screened and operationally prepared mission pathway.

≈40ophthalmic surgeons currently reported nationally
≈1,000surgeons reported as needed to meet demand
≈1,500ophthalmic surgeries reported by Fundación Visión RDC in 2025

Programme planning horizon

Designed for a much larger cataract-surgery programme.

Programme leadership has discussed a future planning target of approximately 10,000–15,000 cataract surgeries per year. This platform is therefore being built to manage a large international surgeon pipeline, rotating teams and complex logistics. The figure is a planning assumption supplied by programme leadership, not a published achievement or guaranteed annual output.

Qualification pathway

Three screening stages protect medical time and programme quality.

01

1. Website pre-screening

Candidate profile, qualifications, cataract experience, current licence, languages, availability and professional documents.

02

2. Human screening call

Our external operations team verifies the basics, motivation, availability, mission fit, communication and practical constraints.

03

3. Medical review

Only Dr. Rainald or authorized medical leadership decides clinical suitability and final professional acceptance.

Information and coordination only — not medical advice or an emergency service.

Mission travel desk

We prepare the surgeon for the entire stay—not only the flight.

Once a candidate is approved, the external operations team can build an end-to-end mission file covering travel, accommodation, daily movement, food, cultural adaptation and time off. The goal is to remove avoidable friction so the surgeon arrives rested, informed and ready to work.

01

Flight & route design

Compare practical routes, transit rules, baggage requirements and arrival timing around the mission schedule.

02

Visa & document readiness

Maintain a time-sensitive checklist for passport, visa, professional and host documentation that requires human confirmation.

03

Airport & ground movement

Plan airport reception, trusted local transport, internal transfers and mission-site movement.

04

Accommodation matching

Match approved options to safety, distance, internet, power, kitchen, accessibility and budget requirements.

05

Diet & cultural support

Ask each visitor directly about dietary needs and preferences, then use country research only as supporting context.

06

Rest & local experience

Prepare safe, approved off-day options that help visiting surgeons rest, connect with colleagues and understand the local context.

Watch & learn

Video context on Dr. Rainald’s ophthalmology work and training.

Selected public YouTube material adds visual context to cataract care in the DRC and the cataract-training model associated with Fundación Visión. The player opens inside this website; a direct YouTube link remains available as a fallback.

Visiting surgeon experience

Comfort and readiness are part of mission performance.

A visiting surgeon may spend weeks or months in-country. We therefore treat food, accommodation, connectivity, laundry, transport, cultural orientation and rest-day planning as operational requirements—not afterthoughts.

From interest to safe return

One pathway. Clear decision gates.

An application is not an acceptance. A trip is confirmed only when the role, host, credentials, safeguarding, travel, insurance, accommodation, movement and clinical-governance requirements have been reviewed.

01

Discover

Learn the mission, ask questions and compare your skills with a documented need.

02

Verify

Complete identity, professional standing, scope, references and safeguarding checks.

03

Prepare

Confirm the travel pack, accommodation, local movement, induction and go/no-go decision.

04

Serve & learn

Work within approved scope, hand over responsibly and contribute to post-mission improvement.

Future surgeon experiences

Authentic mission voices will live here.

We will not invent testimonials. The layout is ready for verified quotes and photographs from participating surgeons after permission is obtained.

Deep information desk

Have a detailed question before you apply?

Send an inquiry from the homepage. We can route questions about eligibility, recruitment, travel, accommodation, documentation, partnerships and mission logistics. You will receive a case reference.

Immediate answers

Ask the AI mission desk before waiting for a human response.

The assistant is designed for complex programme questions and multilingual follow-ups. When an LLM API is configured on the server, it reasons across the approved knowledge base; if a detail is time-sensitive or unverified, it should escalate to the operations team instead of inventing an answer.

Quick answers

What visiting surgeons usually need to know first.

Does registration mean I am accepted?+

No. Registration is only the beginning. Clinical acceptance requires the staged review and final approval by authorized medical leadership.

Can your team organize my entire trip?+

The operations workflow is designed to coordinate flights, entry-document planning, airport reception, accommodation, local movement, cultural preparation and return travel after approval.

Will you consider dietary and cultural needs?+

Yes. We ask the surgeon directly about preferences and restrictions and then research local availability and country-specific context to support a comfortable stay.

Can I choose my mission dates?+

You can provide availability and preferred duration. Final dates depend on medical need, team composition, host readiness and logistics.

Who decides whether I can operate?+

Only the responsible clinical organization and authorized medical leadership can determine professional eligibility and scope of practice.

Is this website asking for donations?+

No. This platform does not solicit or process public donations. Its purpose is information, recruitment, inquiry and mission coordination.
